Christmas is mostly a season of love, joy and merrymaking but Christmas also means different things to different people. For us at Liquid Love Foundation, it means going out of our way to touch the lives of people.
And truly, we went out of our way, all the way to Assakae, a suburb of Takoradi in the Western Region, for a three day outreach program from 23rd to 25th December, 2018. The people of Assakae received us warmly and we engaged with them in many activities.
It is said that cleanliness is next to godliness, so we started off by cleaning the gutters along many streets in the community. We cleaned choked gutters and removed rubbish from the drains to ease the flow of waste water. Then, together with the market women, we cleaned in and around the market.
Because a sound mind lives in a sound body, the LLF team organized a medical screening for inhabitants. People came from all corners of Assakae to benefit from the health screening. We checked for blood pressure, glucose level, malaria, BMI, etc., and gave drugs to those who needed them.
The children were not left out, as a special quiz was held for the school children. They battled out and displayed their brilliance with the way they answered the questions. Winners and participants received serious awards and prizes.
Christmas without a party, is that one too a Christmas? Indeed, our outreach in Assakae would not have been complete without a party. Children from all over Assakae and surrounding communities trooped in for the Christmas party. There were lots of food and drinks and music to dance to.
